SJ Soulist – born and raised in Manchester and now living in London – is a multi-talented singer/songwriter, rapper and beatboxer.

The genres of music that influence Soulist are Reggae, Lovers Rock, RnB, Hip-Hop, Neo Soul and UK Urban music. Artists that she is inspired by include India Arie, Lauryn Hill, Musiq Soulchild, Jhene Aiko, Drake, J Cole, Kendrick Lemar and many more.

Soulist aims to be the bridge between old school and new school, conscious and commercial creating a new UK Urban sound.

Motivated by her passion for music, SJ Soulist is driven by the love she has for her mum and the desire to create positive, commercially viable music that people can relate to. Her music incorporates many of her own personal experiences, her knowledge and messages that she hopes to share with her listeners.

Soulist has perfomed, supported and/or worked with the likes of Richard Rawson (former Fazer from N-Dubz), French Montana, Wretch 32, Lady Leshurr, Maverick Sabre, Laura Mvula, Paigey Cakey, Ghettz and Akala.

Since 2013 Soulist has been involved in many major productions including a performance alongside the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the 2013 BBC Urban Proms at The Royal Albert Hall. This lead to her being featured on BBC3’s ‘Fazer’s Urban Takeover’, as well as major radio stations such as Radio 1 Xtra, Radio 1 & 3. SJ Soulist has recently been working on a UK tour as well as a music project slated to be realised in 2016. Finally we’re a happy to announce Soulist is part of the killer lineup for our next event, in association with Wotever World at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern. Join us there from 7pm on January 5th 2016 if you’d like to see her perform live. You definitely won’t want to miss out.
