Music News: #GayRapper Fly Young Red signs to lil Wayne’s #YMCMB [@Red_Hustla]

Yes that’s right, you heard it, Fly Young Red has signed to Lil Wayne’s YMCMB label..

With such blatantly vulgar and homosexually charged lyrics, an industry power-move such as his YMCMB signing is shocking as well as groundbreaking. When asked for a comment, Young Money capo Lil’ Wayne stated, “Good music is good music. Gay, straight, black, white, blue, or purple. Good music is just good music. Have you ever been in the club when that joint came on? Niggas go crazy when that drop. I had to make him YMCMB.”

This is my message to this young man.
Hello. I’m a 48 year old gay man from New Orleans, but live in Houston. I’ve been conversing about your video with friends online.

Please also understanding that I am not approaching you as an attack and of course not as judgment. Judgement means in most cases to make a final decision on someone, and no human can do that. And of course I’ve had my fair share of whoring around in my life, but at the end of the day most humans know it’s not a rewarding life. I am a gay Christian, and boldly state that on my profile with gay meeting sites. Some think it’s an oxymoron to say Gay and Christian, but I think and know otherwise by getting my closure with God and not man. So I don’t represent any religion as I don’t follow religions but God.

But I come to you as an urging. We’ve fought in our black community to get our young girls to not view the objectified women in rap videos as role models, and the struggle continues. Historically, these sex object images have shaped the way our young ladies dress, talk to men, and get abused by men, with the impression this is how life is suppose to be.

Well, now let’s go to the black gay community. A young man goes in to a gay club for the first time. The drag crew gets a hold of him, and help shape the way he talks, walks, and how he should be towards men. Before you know it, he’s in heels and wigs and calling himself fem. It’s not free expression any more but an actual stifled life. He’s not really who he truly is. That is the affect we have on others.

Now, let’s take it to another level. If we are in the public world, we can’t have it both ways. We can’t say we are just trying to do our thing but don’t want to be a role model. Just as ball players who misbehave in the public. Whether they like it or not, because they are depending on the public for support of their skills, they are by default, role models… and that image is even more detrimental to our youth.

There are youth, 12, 13, 14 year olds in their most impressionable years that are viewing your video. Just like our girls, they will get the impression that this is what it means to be gay. To be a sex object for a dude… that this is all the gay community has to offer. They will get the impression that they have to reshape who they are to be in the gay community. They must choose to be fem or thug. They they must be submissive to a dude that orders them around or that they must push a fem dude around.

Whether you believe it or not, and even though you don’t choose to be, you are an influence to kids… especially with the availability of social networks.

So, I urge you… come out with a video that counters the message. Come out with a message that pushes young gay black men to be themselves first. If you want to boast about free expression, allow our young men to understand they can be free to be themselves first.

Please promote that… promote an uplifting opportunity for our youth to be themselves and not a stereotypical gay image.

    I urge you.
